Compare Linux Hosting: Is The OS Important?

By Louis Meadowbank

There are many website creators who want to compare Linux hosting in order to see how it measures up with other operating systems. In the past, there were major differences between the Linux and Windows hosting platforms. Deciding on the operating system that you will use to host your site was a big factor in determining how the site would be designed. Now, in this period of cross-system web hosting, the differences in the operating systems are relatively small. As a result, the best Linux hosting and the best Windows hosting are nearly the same.

Yet, there are still some obvious differences among the operating systems. One of the more recognizable differences has to do with the way you are able to access the server. Linux and Windows offer FTP access to the files. However, only Linux provides users with telnet or ssh access. Probably, both creators did this with their intended audiences in mind. Windows is designed for a large number of lay people to operate with nominal programming knowledge, while Linux is geared toward those who are more comfortable programming computers.

Regardless, this is not a fundamental difference, since there is little to differentiate FTP from telnet or ssh practically. FTP lets you download the file locally, while telnet and ssh allow you to change the root file on the web server through UNIX commands.

The second difference between Linux and Windows hosting is that they support different programming languages. Linux is usually associated with PHP, Perl, and CGI, while Windows is associated with ColdFusion and ASP. The database languages are also dissimilar, with Windows users favoring Access while Linux users prefer MySQL.

In addition, Windows also writes pages in .htm format and Linux writes its web pages in .html. Ultimately, these differences are small, but they can make significant difference if you prefer a particular language. Attempting to modify Access files while you are using a computer operating system based on Linux can be an exercise in frustration for beginning programmers.

Linux hosting plans are different from the other OS hosting plans in a few other ways. For those concerned about security, most analysts believe that Windows is generally more unstable than other OS. Yet, Linux has vulnerabilities as well. However, Linux issues updates and patches more frequently because it is open source software. Windows also fixes their vulnerabilities. They issue service packs when they are needed. Most designers will turn to the system administrator to handle all of these technical concerns. Reliable administrators can work on any operating system.

In the end, you will make the decision that is best for your needs. If you choose Windows or Linux for example, you would do well to choose a Linux hosting plan or any other hosting plan based primarily on the features and services it provides. This is even more important because the differences between the OS are small. However, if you site demands one language or another, you should ensure that compatibility would not be a problem.

However, if you do not have specific requirements, then it is easier to let the system administrators decide whether you have the best Linux hosting plan or whether you should use Windows hosting, while you focus your energy on creating the best website possible. Instead of trying to compare Linux hosting with Windows, work on creating content as it is more important than the programming language or the OS of the web servers.

AdWords Pay Per Click Advertising - What are Google AdWords Pay Per Click Advertising Campaigns

By Greg Cesar

Google created its best income-generating method in 2007 with the Google AdWords pay per click advertising. This innovative advertising method left its competitors biting the dust with a revenue of over $16 billion. This became the Google search engine's major source of income.

AdWords pay per click advertising is an excellent way to generate additional visits to a website, providing that you know how to use the advertising medium to your advantage. Without knowledge of how AdWords pay per click advertising works, you and your business will waste valuable time and money as you try to understand the technical details. It is not that Google Adwords is difficult to comprehend. Rather, it is difficult to master and often costly for someone without any experience.

Fact: In order to appreciate Google AdWords pay per click advertising, you have to know how this concept came about.

The concept of AdWords pay per click advertising came from the yellow pages. Bill Gross came up with transferring the Yellow pages concept into an online advertising scheme. This utilizes words that are related to people's certain business needs to create advertisement campaigns. More sales leads were generated from this concept and so widened the net for potential customers. Study the Yellow Pages and you'll know that they use text advertisements to attract new customers. Online, it's the same concept used by search engines to create income from potential consumers.

Google thought this concept was so good that they wished to purchase the idea from Gross, but the businessman and the search engine could not come to an agreement. Regardless of a resolution, Google then launched AdWords pay per click advertising in 2000 and a court dispute unfolded, which eventually saw the search engine claim the rights to the AdWords pay per click advertising model.

Google first offered the Adwords pay per click advertising to business owners by asking for monthly fees. Google then managed the campaigns for the business owners. Later, Google gave business owners the ability to manage their own advertising campaigns. They were able to do so through an online portal.

Business owners find that it's more cost effective to hire specialists in the AdWords pay per click advertising method. They've realized that these online marketing specialists who have studied this method for some time knows what works or does not work in online advertising.

Clients express how they'd like the graphics to look, the certain look and feel they want sites to have, the impressive designs they want conveyed. They often share how they feel about their sites and the importance of making them look incredible and different.

These conversations are valuable, but my response as the web developer is usually the same. I would simply take the content provided by the client and plug it into an intuitive and well-designed site. It was always highly professional with lots of flashy and over-the-top, eye-catching elements. Usually, the customer was more than satisfied with the end-product. Many graphic design companies, or website design firms offering cheap prices, may be content to continue operating under this model.

Advice to Webmasters Who Want to Get the Best Hosting

By Bethany Payne

Excellent technical support is the number one thing you should look at when you compare hosting companies. You're a busy person and want to get your problems solved as quickly as possible. You want a web hosting company that respects your time and helps you solve your problems quickly. Support should be available 24-hours by phone, chat, an online "knowledge base", and email or ticket system. Depending on your type of problem and time frame, you may need each of these different services.

Uptime is another factor to review in a web hosting company. When you have put hard work into planning and having your site created, you want to know others can view it. You should look for it to be functional for at least 99% of the time. Most hosting companies offer an uptime guarantee. Beware that a guarantee only means that if they don't meet their uptime standard, you are given your monthly fee back on a prorated basis. They don't usually compensate you for lost traffic or sales.

Additional important items to look at are disk space, bandwidth and the number of domains allowed. In the good old days, you were limited in all three of these. Now most hosting companies give you unlimited amounts of disk space, bandwidth, and domains. Note, however, that if you need a sudden large increase in any of these, contact your hosting company. They may be able to bill you for increases like these. Disk space is the amount of space your files, photos and videos take up on the hosting company's servers, usually measured in MB or GB. Bandwidth is the quantity of traffic between the internet and your site. If you do some great marketing and have a sudden influx of visitors, you will need a large amount of bandwidth. An unlimited amount of domains that you can host means you can have a ton of websites up just on one hosting account. A feature of which I am very fond.

Price, price, price. I think that old adage is true that you get what you pay for. You should balance a low price with good technical support and services. There are companies that offer free hosting, but you usually have to put up with advertising by the hosting company on your site. There are also some free hosting companies without advertising, but they don't last long. You don't need the trouble of moving your site to a new host once you've already been through the trouble of setting it up. Find a hosting company with a decent price and be sure they have excellent services and technical support.

Being the owner or webmaster of your own site is a joy. You may keep it for years and years. Therefore, be certain to pick a hosting company that will have all the services and support that you need.

Different Types of Website Hosting

By Rich Vial

The term Web Hosting refers to a type of Internet hosting service by which a web page is made available over the internet for anyone throughout the world to access. It is almost always offered as a free service. Organizations that permit such space on servers that they own also sometimes provide Internet connectivity.

The type of Web Hosting is solely determined by the client's requirements. The most popular type is free web hosting, where one gets to host the web page without any rentals. Personal web pages that need little database support are often hosted for free. Such Web Hosts are nourished by advertisements.

As far as the scope of hosting services is concerned, the most primitive and basic method refers to the uploading of the web page through File transfer protocol (FTP) or some other Web Interface. In reseller hosting services the host generally purchases a large amount of server space and then sells it in a segregated manner to the customers. In this case also, alike dedicated server, the client have full authority over the space that he/she purchases.

In Home based server option consumer based broadband connection can be used to host websites though a single machine. Results Show That Article Marketing Works

By Nigel Evans

Article marketing can sometimes confuse people as they do not understand how it works. What they need to realize is that it is all based around a value proposition. It may be difficult to understand the concept of writing a 500 word piece to help with your search engine optimization or Internet marketing, but if the article is highly informative and educational, those who read it will automatically create a natural flow back towards your website.

It is not possible to judge it over the short term and this is why some people just do not believe that article marketing works. They point to initiatives like pay per click, where you can set up an account and be seeing results within a day or so of commencement. However, article marketing requires you to assess its results over a much longer time period.

Many hundreds of article directories exist on the Internet and they vary greatly in importance. Search engines allocate good authority to some of them and rightly so. As people are searching for information they can scroll through the article directory sites themselves or they can often see results gleaned from articles that have been published on these directories in elevated positions within search engine results.

On a daily basis, there are many millions of individual searches through Google, Yahoo and other engines. When people search, they look for information based on highly targeted keywords and phrases. To them, well-written articles are excellent sources of information. To enable you to get your information in front of the searchers, you should make sure that your articles are distributed to as many useful places around the web as you can.

There is no doubt that article marketing works very well if you give it a chance to work for you. If you are not particularly good at writing, fear not as there are excellent resources available online. Ghostwriters will help you to research your keywords and write the articles themselves according to informative, educational and enlightening angles and then submit through the entire process of distribution. Aim to publish articles on a regular basis.

You may note that the generation of back links to your site is a very important element of search engine optimization. The major search engines determine the relevance of your website accordingly. Historically, some unscrupulous webmasters have tried to use "link farms," setting up an abnormal number of back links automatically. However, the search engine operators are aware of such activity and discount it. If you naturally send out your articles to prominent locations, the search engines will recognize the value of the back links that you receive from these sites to your benefit.

Take a few moments and surf to ezinearticles.com. Have a good look around and you will see thousands of articles that are optimized for specific purposes, complete with links back to individual websites and this will help to prove to you that article marketing works.

Those who are involved in Internet marketing really must be involved in article marketing campaigns. There are significant direct and indirect benefits to be attained and after a period of time your website and your author will come to be viewed as niche experts.
